Cloud Migration? Done! This is how it is done in the right way

Those who follow us know perfectly well what our experts have been repeating for more than 10 years: the Cloud is not a technology, the Cloud is a business model.

And now more than 15 years ago

. Just two years later, more than 100 applications had been created on the platform. Today, there are many companies that offer Cloud services. However, there are challenges to be faced. And yet the best way to migrate critical business data and metadata to the cloud remains an unknown for many enterprises.
Despite the increased awareness of the strategic value of cloud migration in recent years, many companies are still adopting “counterintuitive” and unnecessarily expensive approaches. Businesses typically tend to think like this: “I’m just going to move new information to the cloud and not worry about current data residing on-premises” or “I’ll think about governance and security later.” Badly. And we’ll explain why.

Embrace an agile method

If you ask the CEOs of companies why they are not completely moving from on-premise to the cloud, very often their answer will be that they are doing so because of concerns about governance. While governance is critical to protecting data and ensuring it is used correctly, the need to truly embrace agile data governance goes further.
But modern businesses can’t afford to fall behind when data is locked down due to governance issues. So, investing in agile data governance early or reinvesting in an existing process prevents data and analytics bottlenecks and allows you to use more modern tools that accelerate your return on investment.
It also fosters collaboration between data teams and enables companies to gain knowledge as they work.
And then, whether the company is starting a cloud migration process from scratch or not, organization and consistency are key. This is why it is important to ask big questions to establish metrics that will guide the immediate process and what future success will look like. So it’s important for the company to structure its data in a consistent architectural style to ensure smoother navigation.

Use the right tools for the process

There’s one important thing to know: the best approach without investing in the right tools won’t be fully successful. Of course, these are difficult times for businesses. Business has become and will continue to become more difficult for many companies as concerns about recession and inflation put pressure on budgets. However, these new concerns don’t need to limit your migration to the cloud. Understanding the end-to-end process will help prioritize the right tools, increase efficiency, and create real business value.
Many of these choices will depend, of course, on use cases. As the budget expands and the migration scales, data governance platforms, data quality, profiling, lineage , and more can be brought online when they are strategic to business priorities.
